GIVE KIDS A SMILE(GKAS)
Dear Dental Assistants, Hygienists and Dental students!
Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) 2019 is coming up next year on February 6, 7 and 8 and we at SCCDS are again making preparations for this wonderful program to help children from local schools receive mandated dental screenings.Last year, approximately 5500 children were screened for possible dental problems at 55 schools and Boys & Girls clubs combined. When we found children needing urgent care, we worked with the school nurses to find a dentist who could care for the child at no charge if they did not have a regular dental home. Don’t wait. Become a volunteer today and help give kids a smile! Contact Share Gift for more information.
BECAUSE EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO SMILE
Please share and consider making a donation so we can have basic necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, or floss to help encourage/improve their overall health, thus helping to reduce the prevalence of cavities in these communities. For details and to donate, go here:

Binational Health Week (BHW) has evolved into one of the largest mobilization efforts in the Americas to improve the health and well-being of the underserved Latino population that lives in the United States and Canada. During BHW, federal, state and local government agencies, community-based organizations and thousands of volunteers come together in the month of October to conduct a series of health promotion and health education activities including workshops, insurance referrals, vaccinations and medical screenings.
BHW fosters community solidarity by bringing together existing resources and thousands of volunteers working together for a common goal. The events are coordinated by the collaboration among Latin American consulates, community, and government agencies from the U.S., Mexico and other Latin American countries with the purpose of reaching out to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people, especially those without medical coverage.
BHW main partners include the Secretariats of Health and Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, and Peru, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, several Departments of Public Health, the Council of Mexican Federations in North America, and the Health Initiative of the Americas, a program of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health.

HOLIDAY CHILDREN’S TOY AND COAT DRIVES
Samaritan House Toy Shop is the largest holiday toy and coat distribution for low income families in San Mateo County. In 2018 we served more than 3,500 children over 3 days. All were able to find new toys, new coats, new books and new teen gifts at this fun event. Help us to bring Holiday cheer by running a New Toy or New Children’s Coat Drive. It’s a great option for businesses, groups of neighbors, classrooms, churches, families, sports teams, or just about any group of people who want to celebrate the spirit of giving during the holidays. Share Gift will collect donations and deliver to Holiday Drive @ Samaritan House.

PLASMA DONATIONS FROM RECOVERED COVID-19 PATIENTS
People who have fully recovered from COVID-19 have antibodies in their plasma that can attack the virus. This convalescent plasma is being evaluated as treatment for patients seriously ill with COVID-19. Historically, convalescent plasma has been used as a potentially lifesaving treatment when new diseases or infections develop quickly, and no treatments or vaccines were available yet. Share Gift will join Red Cross in this act and host Blood Drive. The Red Cross has been asked by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help identify prospective donors and manage the distribution of these products to hospitals treating patients in need.
